We are pleased to announce that the 2025 season of the Sophia Lectures, Tractable Miracles, is now being released online, via both our website and our YouTube channel.
These four lectures explore how evolutionary biology can illuminate the continuities between the natural and human worlds, presenting science not as a closed system of answers, but as a living inquiry into pattern, evidence, and meaning. Delivered by evolutionary biologists Dr Bret Weinstein and Dr Heather Heying, the series traces the subtle and profound dynamic between biology, culture, and consciousness, demonstrating how the processes that shape life also give form to the moral, imaginative, and creative dimensions of human experience. In addition to the lectures themselves, we are pleased to share the opening conversation with Drs Weinstein and Heying about the forces and conditions that shaped their intellectual development.
The Sophia Lectures are a series of annual lectures delivered at Ralston College, which feature distinguished academics, prominent artists, and public intellectuals. The aim of this lecture series is to engage with timeless human questions in light of foundational insights from science, philosophy, and culture.
Why The Sophia Lectures Matter
The Sophia Lectures are a signature initiative of Ralston College. They are designed to enable open access to some of the most vital and transformative ideas of our time, bringing them to a broad public audience. By uniting rigorous inquiry with a spirit of wonder, the series exemplifies the College’s commitment to fostering intellectual and cultural renewal.
Previous years of the series have featured conversations with internationally renowned scholars such as Dr Iain McGilchrist, drawing hundreds of thousands of listeners and viewers worldwide. This year’s lectures continue in that tradition, expanding the dialogue into the sciences and their intersection with philosophy, culture, and human meaning.
