People of Ralston: Meet Alum Eric Kube

News 1st May 2025

After completing the MA in Humanities and Ralston’s inaugural Latin program, Eric Kube (Class of ’24) is beginning a new chapter at Ohio State University’s Department of Psychiatry, where he will contribute to the SOAR Study (State of Ohio Adversity and Resilience)—a statewide initiative focused on promoting mental health resilience and preventing addiction.

Originally from New Jersey, Eric earned a degree in Neuroscience from Colorado College in 2017. His early work focused on addiction recovery, which sparked his interest in the philosophical and narrative frameworks that shape our responses to suffering. That search led him to the study of the humanities at Ralston, where classical texts deepened his understanding of human flourishing, particularly the Aristotelian concept of eudaimonia.

Finding work after graduation was no easy task—he sent hundreds of applications amidst research funding cuts—but his humanities background became a distinctive strength, with interviewers valuing his ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and connect ideas across disciplines.

At Ohio State, Eric will conduct diagnostic interviews and study how lifestyle, relationships, and personal values influence resilience and mental well-being. He credits his time at Ralston with shaping both his intellectual and personal growth—especially through engagement with the works of Boethius, Augustine, and Dante—thinkers who helped him navigate uncertainty and reflect on the human condition. He credits the Ralston community—both professors and fellow students—with fostering an environment that values intellectual rigor and personal reflection.

Looking ahead, he hopes to embody the spirit of inquiry and dedication that Ralston imparted to him, carrying forward the legacy of rigorous, human-centered education. As he moves to Columbus, OH, he remains grateful for the support and encouragement of the Ralston community, committed to making a positive impact in his new role.  He writes: “I’ve been extremely grateful for all the time, energy, and financial support which have allowed things to unfold as they have; my life has been so positively changed, and I know that this change ripples out far beyond my narrow world.”

We wish him the best in this next chapter and are proud to see how his humanities education continues to shape his path.
